a thursday post

i just can't resist posting today. just some random thoughts.

a week ago, i rode this jeep with this v. rude/profit-oriented jeepney driver. i was supposed to get off at asian center but he dropped me off 100 meters further at the ilang ilang residence hall. as always, i cursed the manong driver in my head and swore that i never would ride his jeep again. when i thought of it, a lot of public transportation personnel are not really that um, dedicated to their work of service to the people. actually, a lot of public service people hate serving, and it shows. remember the Luli Arroyo incident? an eye-opener on the ape-like patience of our public servants (not the elected ones, of course; they have a different defect). there are tricycle drivers who drive near the speed of sound, mock their passengers, use a lot of cuss words and overprice. a lot of jeep and bus drivers drive too fast, or too slow, get angry when there is an emergency getting-off situation, but have no shame in stopping every 10 meters just to get passengers, and of course the record-holder jeep and bus stuffing. i experience countless times of pain while riding a stuffed jeepney. they always say, "o, tatlo pa!" when there is only one seat left. usually, i am the person who hangs on to the tinniest piece of seating almost squatting. the buses do the same deception. the conductor says, "marami pa! maluwag pa!". the truth is there are no more seats left and passengers could only ride standing up, hanging on to dear life while the driver speeds up in skyway. another profit oriented scheme is when the buses stop at the bus stops for too long. i actually spent an hour travelling just sitting in a bus waiting for passengers in ayala. in all cultures of this world, an hour not in motion, when you are supposed to be travelling is an utter rip-off. unless you are the driver/operator.

and i now go to the office personnel. i have involved myself in a few matters where i need to obtain things from the government (these include forms, permits and other papers). in most cases, i end up with the stuff i intend to get, plus a headache or an additional 50 mm Hg of blood pressure (without eating pork). these personnel are rude, insensitive and lazy. some of them would take a break from 11 am to 2 pm. 3 hours? hello, we're burning daylight here... some are simply lost and uncapable of doing their actual jobs, and you have to draw an explicit diagram just to show that you need a form that says you're actually alive. and of course, the red tape.
yung tipong pinagpapasapasahan ka lang. that really sucks.

i think that no amount of VAT or credit rating can uplift this country if its service personnel continue what they are doing. mag-artista na lang sila. parang si Gretchen Barreto. if they want to be rude or insensitive, they can. artista na sila eh.

we had an experiment yesterday that used a big weighing scale. eventhough it may be prohibited to use this scale to measure my weight, i used it. a hundred and fifty pounds. what? i was just 140 when i last weighed, two weeks ago... (of course i thought of water retention and all that but still). so, i panicked. i computed my BMI (of course, steve told me i was overweight already), and found out that i was still safe in the normal weight range. i am worrying about my health. i can't take care of it very well. i planned to jog today (2.2 kms) but i got colds so i passed the opportunity to be healthy (for whatever amount of health i can get).

i am known as the quiet guy who never gets angry explosively. wrong.
